Spotlight Your Work!
Communicating science is an important skill. Whatever your stage of training and whether your project is an idea or a finished piece. The “Spotlight" webinars provide an opportunity to practice explaining an idea in a safe space and gain experience, get feedback and recognition for CPD.

New resource supporting staff to use AI with confidence and accuracy
PSD Scotland Knowledge Services have developed guidance which includes 5 key AI literacy principles, plus practical support for day-to-day work, backed up by useful links and references to current research.
The guidance will help health and social care staff in Scotland to get the best out of AI tools, particularly Microsoft Copilot, by using them critically, realistically and ethically. Keep in mind these tools are emerging, so guidance will change over time and you should always refer to organisational policy before using AI tools for work.

Clinical Academic Fellowship Now Open for Applications
Applications are now open for the next round of Clinical Academic Fellowships. The scheme aims to build research capacity within NHS Scotland by providing clinical professionals early in their careers with the opportunity to undertake a PhD. Eligibility includes doctors and dentists in training, GPs, GDPs, NMAHPS, Healthcare Scientists and Pharmacists.
Applicants should ensure they have read the scheme guidance and checked their eligibility before applying. Applications must be submitted through the CSO Grants Management System using the appropriate application form.

The application deadline is midday on Thursday 1 October.

Scotland's Health Awards 2026
We’re pleased to share that the Scotland's Health Awards 2026 are now open for nominations, including the Healthcare Scientist of the Year Award, now in its second year.
Following the success of last year’s awards, it’s fantastic to see Healthcare Scientists recognised on a national stage. In 2025, the Healthcare Scientist Award was won by Laura Jess (NHS Lothian), recognising her transformational leadership and impact on patient care.
Healthcare Science leadership was also recognised more widely, with Laura Turton (Audiology, NHS Tayside) named joint Leader of the Year, alongside Steven Swanson (Laboratory Sciences, NHS Lothian)—highlighting the breadth of leadership and impact across the scientific workforce.
This is a valuable opportunity to continue showcasing the impact of Healthcare Science across NHS Scotland and to celebrate the contributions of colleagues making a real difference every day.
