Quality Improvement Awards for Internal Medical Training Trainees

Over 100 trainees attended the annual Scottish internal medicine quality improvement conference in November. Despite the pandemic challenges and the need for a virtual conference, the judges commented on the exceptionally high quality of projects undertaken by internal medicine trainees across Scotland and found it difficult to select just four to invite to represent Scotland at a national UK showcase.

The winners were Dr James Bott from Inverness with a project improving the quality of intravenous fluid prescription and fluid balance charting in an acute medical unit, Dr Robbie Hair from Inverclyde looking at escalation plans and the documentation of decision making for acute medical admissions, Dr Karl Bonello from Fife whose work involved human factors and improving the quality and consistency of discharge communication with primary care for medical boarding patients and Dr Felicity Craighead also from Fife whose work involved developing a new insulin prescription and administration record designed to reduce prescription errors in acute and general medicine.
