New Technology Enhanced Learning Team in NHS Education for Scotland

A new team has been set up in NHS Education for Scotland to help support all NES educators to build their skills and confidence when using technology to enhance the design, development, and delivery of their learning programmes.  The Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team - part of the Knowledge Management and Discovery business unit within NES Digital - will be engaging with staff across all Directorates and disciplines to build on existing good practice and provide contextual support through a range of approaches and resources.

NES was already adapting to increased use of technology to support education, and the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated this shift and enabled a wider range of options to be explored to improve the learner experience.  Technology-enhanced learning approaches cover a wide range of areas – from effective facilitation of webinars, to design tools, polls, and learner engagement tools, use of animations and much more.  The new team is in place to ensure there is adequate support for staff to be upskilled in those topics which are relevant to their own areas of practice, and to ensure that the needs across the organisation are being met.  Resources will be developed which will be widely accessible, and a helpdesk approach will be developed to ensure that support can be requested at early stages of learning design – this will help to identify the correct solution to meet the need and to help the requestor to navigate the range of options available.

The vision of the Technology Enhanced Learning Team:

Our aim is to empower our NES colleagues to develop and sustain their skills and confidence to design, deliver and support education using technology enhanced learning practices.  We will work collaboratively with our colleagues and act as role models to support a consistent and evidence-based NES approach to technology enhanced learning.

Our team members are listed, and the team has been funded to be in place until March 2023.
