Having listened to the presentation about the Social Model of Disability on the Introduction page, it may now help to set the scene further by considering the perspectives that NMAHP regulatory bodies have about disabled people as registrants.
Similarly the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2022) states:
"We value the diversity of the people on our register and we have to ensure our processes are fair and accessible to them all.....There is no room for any kind of discrimination in the healthcare sector, and we’re committed to working with partners to do everything in our power to tackle inequality and promote diversity and inclusion."

A final thought before proceeding—terminology. Based on the Social Model of Disability, which encourages us to acknowledge that people are disabled by how society is organised, this resource mainly uses the term ‘disabled people’. On some occasions other terminology e.g. ‘people with disabilities’ may be used, these terms are also used by organisations that represent the views of disabled people. |
