Disclosure after failing an assessment

The duty to make a reasonable adjustment in a placement assessment arises once a student has disclosed. If the disclosure occurs after failing an assessment, the result would normally stand.

In most cases disclosure after assessment will not change the outcome of the failed assessment. This aspect is very much dependent on the assessment regulations for individual learning programmes and discussion with the relevant academic staff member from the educational institution (for example; academic assessor, personal tutor, placement tutor or other designated educational institution staff member) will be essential to identify an appropriate plan of action.

Whether the assessment can be retaken during the placement will depend on the type of assessment, time required and if any reasonable adjustments need to be implemented—often this may mean a students is allocated a new learning experience.
