Welcome to the Spring edition of your HCS newsletter
The last quarter has been marked by substantial activity within the HCS team.
In March, we organised and participated in a variety of events during HCS Week. Our spotlight session attracted a significant audience and highlighted roles within each of our five professional groups. For those unable to attend, recordings are available on our website.
Many healthcare scientists received recognition at the CSO awards for their contributions to the profession. Congratulations to all nominees and winners on your achievements.
Several team members attended the Academy for Healthcare Science Fellowship Awards. Special congratulations are extended to Stephen Gandy who leads the MRI Physics group at NHS Tayside, recipient of the Chairs Award for Excellence.
Our frameworks remain under development, with most currently undergoing stakeholder review prior to finalisation. Upon completion, we will conduct a gap analysis related to education and training provision across specialties. Work has also commenced on developing a website to host frameworks and associated resources.
This year, we have introduced a bursary covering Bands 2-9 within HCS. This bursary is designed to support those pursuing additional academic programmes, professional qualifications, or professional examinations to facilitate career progression.
The annual HCS event will take place online on 1 September 2026 and will feature presentations from the Scottish Government, Academy for Healthcare Science, and the National School for Healthcare Science, among others. Please mark your calendars.
Our website has recently been updated, and content is under ongoing review. We encourage you to visit for further information and to join our mailing list to stay informed regarding developments and funding opportunities.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has collaborated with the HCS team. We look forward to continued progress in the coming months.
