The Scottish Government Allied Health Professions Education and Workforce Policy Review (2023) recommends: |

“Recognition of the value and importance by leaders and at all career levels to ensure Practice Based Learning is embedded as a core element of everyone's practice. This includes inclusion of Practice Based Learning in individual career conversations, career pathways/framework, national and local AHP job plans and service models and through enhancing AHP education structures within NHS Boards and other sectors.” |
In 2018 NHS Education for Scotland (NES) consulted with AHP stakeholders to co-produce 4 consensus statements: |
 1 |
All AHPs have a responsibility to support practice-based learning — regardless of their grade, occupational role, practice setting or specialism. |
 2 |
Practice-based learning can occur in any environment, setting or specialism. |
 3 |
A wide range of student supervision models can be used to deliver, and support practice-based learning. |
 4 |
Resources to support practice-based learning must be embedded in service plans and our infrastructure to meet the needs of everyone involved. |

In December 2023 ten AHP Professional Bodies came together to develop and publish the co-badged AHP Principles of Practice-Based Learning. |

These seven principles give clear and consistent messaging and opportunity to better shape and support the provision of PrBL for the future workforce:

 Practice-based learning opportunities are co-produced |

Practice-based learning takes place across all areas, pillars and levels of practice |

Practice-based learning environments must be inclusive and welcoming to all |

Practice-based learning uses flexible, appropriate and supportive models of supervision and delivery |

Practice-based learning is designed with a whole team approach |

All those involved in practice education feel valued, respected and recognised within their roles |

Practice-based learning is evaluated; capturing data to drive improvement and demonstrate impact |
