Supervisor Spotlight

03
What’s it really like to be a clinical supervisor? These short videos showcase the experiences and insights of supervisors across Scotland. Through their stories, you’ll hear what motivates them, how they support trainees in practice, and the impact supervision has on the future of the profession.

🎥 In this first video, Frances Barker shares her perspective as a supervisor with over 20 years’ experience, while Suzanne Proctor reflects on her early career as a supervisor, offering valuable insights into how supervision evolves over time.

🎥 In this second video, Hanin Al Rahho and Alistair Duff, both IP optometrists working in busy community settings, share their experiences of supervising students and offer insight into what effective supervision looks like in practice.

🎥 In the final video, we hear from Abeeda Khatoon, Optometrist and Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University, and Dr Iain Livingstone, Consultant Ophthalmologist at NHS Forth Valley. They share their experiences of supervising undergraduate students and postgraduate optometrists and reflect on what they value most about the role.

We would like to thank Frances, Suzanne, Hanin, Alistair, Abeeda and Iain for generously sharing their time, experience and insight to support this work.
