New Dental Practice Specific IR(ME)R Employers Procedures Templates
To help support dental practices in Scotland, the IR(ME)R regulator, in collaboration with the national RPA group and NSS, have provided the first dental practice specific Employers Procedures (EPs) templates. Previously all Employers Procedures were written for hospital imaging departments, which are very different from the simpler needs of a dental practice. We have also provided guidance in the form of videos to help practices use these templates and appropriately complete these new documents in a simple understandable fashion.

SDCEP Perio Guidance updated
The second edition of the SDCEP Prevention and Management of Periodontal Diseases in Primary Care guidance aims to assist and support the dental team to identify and manage patients at risk of and with periodontal diseases in primary care, improve the quality of decision making in treatment planning and improve the overall oral health of the population.
The updated guidance is presented within a dedicated Periodontal Care website to aid accessibility, navigation and updating.
Pre-Registration Dental Nurse Training
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) provide an annual dental nurse training programme across each of our 5 sites: Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Our blended learning programme consists of 14 online study days and 6 in person training days at a dental education centre. Study days are full days on a fortnightly frequency.
Applications for the 2024-2025 programme commencing in September 2024 will be open from Monday 15 July 09:00 to 23:59 Monday 29 July.
We will continue to provide alerts leading up to the application process on Monday 15 July 2024.

Launch of the New Knowledge Network's Website
The Knowledge Network Scotland launched its new website on 30 April 2024 with excellent resources for health professionals to access. You still have access to the same excellent collections of books, journals and articles to support practice and learning from the Library Search - all available for free to health and social care staff in Scotland.
