Hints and Tips on Producing your Personal Development Plan

04

In a recent GDC survey on CPD, more than 30% of those responding said they would need more help with developing their Personal Development Plan (PDP).  Having a PDP is a GDC requirement for all dental professionals to drive forward and target their CPD.  A PDP, together with a reflection on any CPD undertaken, is an essential and compulsory part of the GDC eCPD requirements.  At the end of each cycle the GDC undertakes a random sampling of the PDPs of that cycle's registrants to check compliance.

Hints and Tips

1. Ensure that you have a Turas log-in. Sign up:  Turas | My Turas | Home (nhs.scot)

2. On Turas Learn sign up for the free Professional Development Portfolio.  Fill in your personal details.

3. Start with your Learning Needs Analysis.  Use evidence from appraisal, Significant Events, colleagues' feedback, patient comments or complaints, and your career aspirations.

4. Identify the CPD that addresses your learning needs and the timescale over which you will undertake it.

5. Undertake your CPD.

6 Provide feedback on the course.

7. Save your course certificate and any handouts from the course to your ePortfolio on the 'Upload Documents' section.

8. Undertake a reflection on what you learned and what changes it will make to your practice and save it to your ePortfolio.

9. Identify any further training you need or wish to do as a result of undertaking this CPD.

10. Use the Sharepack section to share your portfolio with anyone who requires to see it.

Use of the NES portfolio will keep all the CPD you have undertaken, together with your reflections and documents in one place.  The portfolio also gives advice and help on completion of each section.  The portfolio is private to you and cannot be accessed by anyone but you unless you wish to share it.

NES will continue to provide advice on how to create and develop your PDP.  The recording of a recent webinar on how to develop your PDP is available on Portal TV.
