Antibiotic prophylaxis against infective endocarditis
In 2018, the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) published implementation advice on Antibiotic Prophylaxis Against Infective Endocarditis to support the application of dentally-relevant recommendations in the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) clinical guideline 64 (CG64) on Prophylaxis against infective endocarditis.
In October 2024, NICE amended CG64 to include a direct link from Recommendation 1.1.3 to the SDCEP implementation advice. While NICE has not changed its recommendation for people undergoing dental procedures, it has made this amendment to provide more information for users of CG64 on certain higher-risk groups that require special consideration for non-routine care.
