What can I expect on a PAL placement?

How do I prepare for a PAL placement?

On a PAL placement, you work with other students to learn and problem-solve, facilitated and supported by your Practice Educator(s).
Students may be split up for different days or tasks depending on the opportunities available, and you may not always be with your Practice Educator(s).

Activities

You could take part in a range of clinical and non-clinical activities as in any placement. In PAL, these activities may need to be adapted for more students or educators, e.g. using technology to watch remotely or taking turns.
On a PAL placement there can also be opportunities for other group activities, such as:
- problem-solving/clinical reasoning sessions
- providing feedback to one another as critical friends
- project work
- producing social media content
- service audits
- literature reviews

Individual Assessment and Support

In PAL placements, whilst working in a group, you will still have:

You will be assessed against university learning objectives and your own needs and goals, not in comparison to your peers.

Supervision and feedback will provide opportunities to reflect on progress, performance and areas for development. This can be a mix of 1:1 and peer supervision.
Peer supervision covers more general topics, and 1:1 supervision is more personal and confidential.
You will have time to meet with your Practice Educator 1:1 during your placement.
