What are Project Based Placements?
In project-based placements, a student or group of students are given time to work on a meaningful project. This could be developing or evaluating services, resources, or research.
The project can either be for the full placement or for part of the placement (e.g. one day or morning a week). If the project makes up part of the placement, this may be in the same service or site as the rest of a placement, or in another setting. Projects can be completed in person, virtually, or using a hybrid approach.
Project-based placements are suitable for all professions and students at different levels of their education journey. They can also be interprofessional, with students from different professions learning together. Projects can be adapted for the students, service or setting and can sit alongside other models of practice-based learning including peer-assisted learning, where students at the same or different levels can work together to enrich their learning experience.
