Scottish Government supports the education of students enrolled in primary medical qualification programmes (PMQs) in Scotland via two main funding streams: direct support to universities is provided by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), while Medical Additional Cost of Teaching (ACT) funding is allocated to NHS Boards by NES and is a contribution towards the costs of clinical teaching within the NHS when students are taught in hospital or General Practice (GP) settings.

This report provides an overview of the performance management and distribution of the Medical ACT funding allocated to NHS Boards during Financial Year 2023-24. The funding was based on activity delivered by Boards during academic year 2021-22, which was captured by the annual Measurement of Teaching (MoT) exercise that closed in December 2022, as outlined in the Table below.
