Update to the Management of Acute Dental Problems (MADP) guidance

SDCEP is updating its Management of Acute Dental Problems guidance.
First published in 2013, the guidance is aimed at staff in any healthcare setting who may be asked to advise or manage patients with acute dental problems, including non-dental professionals such as general medical practice, emergency department and pharmacy staff. The guidance is also of relevance to members of the dental team and was particularly useful during the Covid-19 pandemic when it underpinned the advice provided by SDCEP when dental practices had to close.
A guidance development group has been convened and met in September to discuss amendments to the guidance. Peer review is scheduled for the latter part of 2025, with publication of the updated guidance expected in Spring 2026. As with other recent SDCEP guidance updates, the second edition of the guidance will be presented via a dedicated mobile-enabled website.
