What’s new in the PSM

Legionella Control

In September, following a CDO letter to dental teams, outlining the context of legionella control requirements, the Control of Legionella section within the PSM was updated. The section now includes additional details on risk assessment and control measures. A policy and procedure template is also provided for practice teams.   

Radiation Protection 

Whilst radiation protection legislation (IRR17 and IR(ME)R17) has not changed, there have been some minor clarifications in the PSM Radiation Protection section to be more consistent with the second edition of the “Guidance Notes for Dental Practitioners on the Safe Use of X-ray equipment”. These changes are unlikely to require significant changes to your practice. The changes and where they can be located within radiation protection subtopics are listed in the PSM news item.         

The PSM now has a new topic providing some general advice on sustainability for dental practices with actions to consider now and for the future. See also the Sustainability news item.

And finally… we will soon be updating the way in which users access the PSM with the removal for the need for registration and log in. Existing PSM users will be contacted about this change. Copyright and use of the PSM resources will not change with the removal of registration.
