What is Long Arm Supervision?

What is Long Arm Supervision?

Long arm supervision happens where supervision is provided by an experienced clinician who is not based at the same location as the student.

  • The Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered practice educator, based in a different setting, for example, healthcare, education, local authority, voluntary sector or another setting, oversees the overall placement.
  • They remain responsible for the student’s learning and development throughout.
  • Day-to-day supervision is provided by a designated staff member within the host organisation.
  • All staff involved in the placement contribute feedback for the student’s mid-point and final assessments
