What is Peer-Assisted Learning?

Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) is ‘2 or more learners working together in the practice setting supervised by one practice education team.’ (AHP Principles of Practice-Based Learning.)

This model of practice-based learning (student placements) is on peer and self-directed learning as the students support each other and work together, like in group and project work at university.

The practice educator(s) provide guidance, support, and feedback.

The PAL model is based on the principles of adult learning, encouraging students to take an active role in their learning, with the practice educator(s) taking the role of  facilitator rather than teacher.

The PAL model is explained further in this short animation AHP PAL Animation on Vimeo.

PAL can be used together with other models of practice-based learning.
