Escalation Processes for managing risk

Process for managing risk

The process for managing risk can be described as a stepwise escalation process. Moving from level 1, the lowest level to level 3, the highest level.

Each level starts with a specific trigger, which is a sign that there is a risk to the placement.

The actions and communication needed to manage this at the local level are then outlined. If the risk cannot be resolved, the process moves to the next level.

The aims of this are to

  • prevent cancellation of an agreed PrBL experience (placement) within an organisation.
  • support practice education providers across all sectors and settings to find solutions to situations where there is a risk to an agreed PrBL experience (placement).
  • clarify the responsibilities of everyone involved, including individual practice educators, placement coordinators, placement leads, managers and NHS health board AHP Practice Education Leads (AHP PELs)
  • ensure timely communication between practice education providers and HEIs and vice versa.
  • to support NHS health boards to meet the requirements of the AHP Practice-based Learning Partnership Agreements.
